Friday, June 30, 2017 Meeting Topic: Vision 2020: Lewis County Autism Coalition
This month our members will explore growing the coalition to meet anticipated needs of children and adults on the spectrum, and their parents, guardians and families. Ideas generated in this meeting will assist with outreach to parents and providers, to make sure all voices are heard.
The Lewis County Autism Coalition meets monthly on the 3rd Friday, from 8-9 AM at The Riverside Fire Authority, 1818 Harrison Avenue, Centralia, WA. (Directions).
Topics from the archives…
A special topic of a recent meeting was The Autism Center of Excellence at Northwest Pediatrics. Dr. Jennifer Polley and the Autism Coalition SMART team reported on NW Peds’ designation as an Autism Center of Excellence (CoE) by the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA).
In the state of Washington, Apple Health (Medicaid) patients seeking Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for autism spectrum disorders must receive their initial diagnosis from a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE in) order for ABA services to be eligible for reimbursement. The CoE designation means that children can now receive their diagnosis here in Lewis County and be referred to appropriate treatment services.
Children who are not patients of NW Peds can get their diagnosis and referral to treatment through the Autism Coalition’s SMART team.
Spotlight Meeting from Our Archives…
A monthly meeting last year went to the dogs when Kirsten Becker (Director) and Michelle Eyres from Autism Anchoring Dogs presented information on their program’s specially trained service dogs.
Their group trains giant breeds like St. Bernards and Newfoundlands to keep children on the autism spectrum safe and calm.
